Bentley: The Perfect Start

Bentley: The Perfect Start

Morecambe's 2014/15 season got underway with an away win on Saturday.

The Shrimps couldn't really have wished for anything more as the league 2 season got off to a flyer with a three-nil win at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Jim Bentley certainly couldn't have asked for much more, he feels it was the 'perfect start' in a 'complete performance' from his side, as we looked likely to create things going forwards and were solid at the back.

Bentley told the media after the game: 'It was the perfect start and in many ways a complete performance. We always looked solid at the back while always looking threatening up front.

'We created and took our chances and limited them to very little and I am delighted with how everything went to plan.

'We had a good shape all the way through and anyone who saw our third goal would have been impressed I'm sure as it was the perfect example of counter attacking football.'

At half time the sides were level, but less than five-minutes into the second half Kevin Ellison's freekick changed that with Padraig Amond thumping home a penalty four minutes later.

The three-nil win was wrapped up when Jack Redshaw came off the bench to score in injury-time.

Winning to start the season is pleasing, more than pleasing, with three-goals a real added bonus but Bentley knows all too well we should be happy but not get carried away....

He added: 'It's always nice to kick off the season with a win and to score three goals makes it all the more sweeter. We won't get carried away but we can all travel home happy.'

Less than a month from now - 20th May - marks the tenth anniversary of the most momentous day in Morecambe Football Club`s history. At Wembley, the Shrimps beat Exeter City in the Conference Play-Off Final to book their place in the Football League for the first time ever. It was a different world then: Christie Park still existed and the fans actually knew who owned the club, for instance. One of the few things that remains to cement the connection between what is a very different club these da
