Abandoned After 58-Minutes
Morecambe's league two game with Accrington at the Crown Ground on Saturday had to be abandoned just before the hour mark due to a waterlogged pitch.
Standing water grew on the pitch as the rain persisted from kick-off with James Adcock deciding, with 58-minutes played, to take the players off and abandon the game.
At that point the game was level at 0-0 but the Shrimps were down to 10-men after Alex Kenyon was sent-off.
Morecambe boss Jim Bentley praised the efforts of the Accrington groundstaff to get the game played, and respected the referees decision to call it off.
Bentley told BBC Radio Lancashire: 'The ground staff did great to get it on. Their backroom staff said it was under water yesterday so they've done brilliantly to get it on in the first place.
'The referee pulled myself and James Beattie in and mentioned that he was concerned and that he was going to give it 15 minutes.
'You've got to respect the referee's decision. Some would have carried on, some wouldn't, and that's the way it is.'
His counterpart James Beattie wasn't so pleased!
The Accrington boss, also talking to BBC Radio Lancashire, felt the referee should have let the game finish: 'I'm not best pleased about it. The ball stuck once in the second half.
'Yes it was raining, but the pitch was draining at the rate it was raining.
'None of the players were complaining. I think the referee could have given the game more time.'
