Morecambe Denied At The Last

Morecambe entertained old foes Dagenham & Redbridge at the Globe Arena on Saturday.

Last season - when the club made what was a then a rearranged fixture free entry - the Shrimps came from a goal down to win the game 2-1 in front of a bumper crowd.

Saturday, - in front of fewer than 1800 spectators - there were signs that the match was going to go the same way. Against the run of play, Abu Agogo opened the scoring for the visitors and - largely thanks to Chris Lewington's heroics in the visitors' goal - the Daggers continued to lead at half time.

With Ninety, ninety-one, ninety-two and then ninety-three minutes on the clock, however, Morecambe seemed to have turned the game around again, just as they did at the same venue last January. Padraig Amond equalised within ten minutes of the restart and then captain Mark Hughes opened his account for the Shrimps with a right-footed shot with almost eighty minutes played.

But - as they say - it's never over until the Fat Lady Sings and Rhys Murphy was able to shoot past Barry Roche in the home goal with almost four minutes of injury time clocked-up to give the Londoners a draw.

The Shrimps drop out of the Play-Off positions as a result into eighth position in League Two. Dagenham find themselves thirteenth.
