St Mirren Snubbed In Favour Of Wigan

Morecambe's pre-season friendly with Wigan is back on, however this has come at the expense of St Mirren with that game at the Globe cancelled as a result.

The Scottish side, and to be fair quite rightly so, have not taken this decision very well.

St Mirren chief executive Brian Caldwell has gone as far as branding Morecambe "disrespectful".

He said: 'Although I'm presently away on holiday I have already contacted Morecambe on what is extremely disappointing news.

'I've told them that we have already booked the hotel and bus for the team based on this fixture which was agreed. And likewise we have no doubt that many of our fans have already committed to accommodation and travel arrangements since the announcement of the fixture.

'To say I am disappointed is an understatement as when a team commits to a pre-season match then cancels when a better offer comes along is a very poor show and disrespectful.'

Apologies have been offered by the Shrimps, with this statement put out: 'Morecambe Football Club would like to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone connected to St Mirren Football Club that has been affected due to the game cancellation.

'It was never this club's intention to show any disrespect to either St Mirren Football Club or any of its fans at any time during communications relating to the arrangements of this pre-season friendly.'

Pre-season schedules change but I can't sit here and say that I think Morecambe's behaviour here is something to be proud of. Perhaps Wigan would generate more interest, and money, but with refunds potentially needing to be paid now it could actually end up costing them more?

All this at a time when the Shrimps are trying their utmost to cut costs!
